Four years after their debut full-length, “Beyond Phobia”, Antropofago continue to explore human psychosis with a second concept album based on dementia (first one was on… phobias) that’s a real huge step forward for the band, both on the display of technical abilities, production level or artistic maturity.
Still as diverse in its approach of technical Death Metal, “Æra Dementiæ” is nevertheless focused on bringing brutality whenever it’s needed and the mix of both aspects with the addition of extremely catchy choruses and riffs will with no doubt make “Æra Dementiæ” the breakthrough album for Antropofago!
Like the special guest solo by Nicolas Alberny (Gorod) and guest vocals by, among others, label-mates Laurent Chambe (Nephren-Ka), Aara (ex-Savage Annihilation) and Benoit Jean (ex-Insain), the album is full of hidden little gems in terms of songcrafting and the over-the-top musicianship, instead of just showing off like for most bands belonging to this style nowadays, is used to bring more interesting moments of tension or rage and continuously keep the listener hooked.
Truly a remarkable album that offers far more than would suggest the style tag or band name. The kind of release that’s rewarding the listener at each listen!
